1960's
The Kirby Start
It all started in the 60’s. Isn’t that how any great story goes? Our company was founded by Phillip James "PJ" Hobart. PJ began selling Kirby vacuums door to door in the 60’s. Once he realized how satisfied his customers were with their vacuums, he knew it was time to start his own vacuum store; servicing and selling Kirby Vacuums full time.

Vision Expanded
In the late 90’s, PJ made the decision to start selling different brands of vacuums as more and more competitors entered the vacuum market.

Keeping it in the Family
After nearly 5 decades of successfully leading a vacuum business, PJ decided it was time to pass on the family business to the next generation. In 2018, Mike Bartmann, who is no stranger to vacuums, took over. In fact, Mike grew up helping PJ and his mom with the family business as a teenager and young adult, and even assisted with managing the service center. In the early 90's Mike ventured off to Oklahoma to start his own business, but he returned to Iowa in 2018 to manage PJ's Vacuum full time.

PJ's Vacuum Today
Mike still manages PJ’s Vacuum today, alongside a wonderful staff fully experienced and educated in all things vacuum, with some help from time to time from PJ and his wife. Together, they serve the greater Cedar Rapids metro area. With more than 50 vacuums in stock at all times, they are ready to meet any need you might have.
